Bentley Continental Flying Spur

mustard-berlin has just produced a campaign for Bentley and agency Connect.
(AD Richard Parsons)

We spent 5 glorious days on location in Wiltshire with photographer Graham Thorp. Mostly around the beautiful town of Marlborough, with a further 2 days in central London. The days were long, shooting at the top and tail of the day in order to get the best light for the shots. The stars of the shoot were two different models of the Continental Flying Spur.

We shot on the Hasselblad H2 with a P65 back for breathtakingly detailed images. The lighting setups were different at each location and for each shot. Mostly a mixture of daylight, some Profoto Flash and  Dedo lights. On some of the locations we were shooting just after magic hour. So we powered up practical lights with a generator to create realistic ambient lighting.

For the London section of the shoot, we closed down the major junction at Monument leading to London Bridge. In collaboration with Transport for London and City of London Film office we managed to place the Bentley in the middle of the junction to get a stunning urban shot. We also shot at locations in the City of London and Shoreditch.

We’ll upload the final photos in the near future so check our media gallery in the coming weeks.

Rainer Schultz & Roy Metzdorf | Portrait

Rainer Schultz by Martin Bennett

Commissioned by the FT to photograph restauranteur’s Rainer Schultz and Roy Metzdorf at Rainers cosy restaurant Kurpfalz-Weinstube, for an article in the weekend edition of the FT. Both  restaurateurs are hosting dinners to mark significant landmarks in their respective histories. On May 31st , Rainer Schulz will celebrate the 75th anniversary of Kurpfalz-Weinstuben in the west of the city. In the north-east, Roy Metzdorf will host a party for the 70th birthday of his father Dieter, who inspired him to open his restaurant, Weinstein, in 1993. Both were remarkably welcoming and charming. I can thoroughly recommend a visit to sample hearty German cuisine at its best.

Shooting on the Canon 5D mk II with the 24-70mm f2.8L lens and the 85mm F1.2 L. All the images were shot using a balance between available practical light and two flash heads one with CTO to match the ambient colour temperature the other was boomed and set up as daylight. The post production was realised with Adobe Lightroom. The article will be published today – Saturday 8th of May. You can read the full article here.

Wunderman | Video : Ford Fiesta Commercial

This is NOW

mustard-berlin are in the post-production phase of producing and directing a commercial for Wunderman & Ford. (CD Richard Last, AD Nick Hearne, CW Simon Kirkham)

We filmed on location in Brighton, at the Royal Pavilion and down on the sea front by the newly renovated Bandstand. We then relocated to the beautiful beach at West Wittering for a final shot at sunset. We had a great crew onboard for this project, were blessed with perfect shooting conditions and light so were totally over the moon as the footage is looking amazing!

The lighting setups were different at each location but Dave Tree, our DP used a mixture of daylight, Arri 2.5k MSR’s, bounce boards and black flags at each location. We filmed using the Canon 5D mkII at 25fps for beautiful HD images. For the final shot at West Wittering we utilised a Jimmy Jib from Joe MacNally operated superbly by Arun Taylor.

We’ll upload the final film in the near future so check our media gallery in the coming weeks.

UPDATE:

The Fiesta Facebook Hack version of the commercial is now on line. Click here to check it out.

Wunderman | Video : Ford Mondeo – Balloonists

mustard-berlin is working on another project for Wunderman & Ford. On friday (19th of Feb) we were filming over at Park Royal Studios in North London. The setup involved suspending 2 kids, Henry and Elizabeth from Scallywags, off the floor. We worked with a wire rig to get them raised up and to create a floating, bobbing look and feel. The final film will show them floating in a white space held aloft by 2 helium balloons. Which will be added in post by the clever people at UNIT.

The lighting setup was a mixture of Briese (100 focus HMI), Arri 1.2k MSR and tungsten. We filmed with a 2 camera setup using the Canon 5D mkII at 30fps and the Canon 7D for 50fps.

We’ll upload the final film in the near future so check our media gallery in the coming weeks.

UPDATE: The Balloonist film is now online and can be viewed here.
